Please follow these steps in order to apply for a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days within a period of 180 days in the Schengen countries. Italy must be your main travel destination.

You wish to go to Italy for business purposes and will stay no longer than 90 days.
You wish to go to Italy for subordinate work and will stay more than 90 days.
You wish to go to Italy for tourism and will stay no longer than 90 days.
You wish to go to Italy and visit your family member or friend of both EU citizen and holder of EU resident permit and will stay no longer than 90 days.
Italy has abolished the issuance of a national visa (type D - long stay) for family reasons (visa for family reunion and for accompanying family). Therefore, the entry visa will be a Schengen visa for “tourism” with multiple entries. Once in Italy – and always in case of a stay longer than 90 days - the competent Police Headquarters will issue to the foreign citizen the residence permit as a family member of an Italian or EU citizen.
You wish to go to Italy to visit one of your foreign citizen relatives and will stay more than 90 days; you will need to provide Nulla Osta “SUI” and you can than apply for a long stay family reunification visa.
Your resident permit is expired within the last 60 days or it has been stolen or lost and you wish to go back to Italy you can than apply for a re-entry visa.
You wish to go to Italy for medical treatment and will stay no longer than 90 days.
You wish to go to Italy for scientific research purposes and will stay more than 90 days; you will need to provide Nulla Osta “SUI” and you can then apply for a visa.
You wish to go Italy to do an entrance exam in order to enrol in Italian Universities you should apply for a national study visa.
You wish to go to Italy for study/internship-study/Exchange student and will stay no longer than 90 days.
You wish to go to Italy for study purposes and will stay more than 90 days; you will need to provide a Warranty certificate issued by the bank (for example Bank of Beirut, Blom bank…) with a monthly coverage of at least 600 euros and you can then apply for a student visa.
Students wishing to obtain the study visa to enroll in public and private university institutions (University / Polytechnics) and Higher Art and Music Education - AFAM (Academies of Fine Arts, National Academy of Dance, National Academy of Dramatic Arts, Legally Recognized Fine Arts Academies, Music Conservatories, Recognized Musical Institutes and Higher Institutes for Artistic Industries), as well as all the other Institutions specified below:
all courses of Laurea (Bachelor) / Laurea Magistrale (Master) / Laurea Magistrale a Ciclo Unico (Single Cycle Bachelor & Master’s Degree) (Università/Politecnici), as well as to all courses related to the 1st / 2nd Level Academic Diploma in the institutions for High Artistic and Musical Education [Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale-AFAM], to the courses of the Higher Schools of Linguistic Mediation (SSML)], Specialization Schools, Phd, Postgraduate Courses, 1st and 2nd level University Masters (Professional), Single Courses, Italian Language and Culture Courses at the Università per gli Studi “Roma Tre”, the Università per Stranieri of Perugia, Siena, Reggio Calabria “Dante Alighieri”, Foundation Courses to access the AFAM institutions, Courses of the Institutes of Specialization in Psychotherapy.
